Could this be the end? You may have noticed that on the south side of Mojácar pueblo, strangers from another part of Spain are excavating an enormous hole, trying to discover and destroy the underground caves of the Moors and Christians, presumably in order to further their own tourist trade. The work is being carried out secretly behind a 2m high steel fence, under the guise of building a few apartments.
The hole is so big that the whole pueblo was starting to tilt over to the South and the Town Hall was obliged to wash away a section of loose, lightweight soil on the North side of the pueblo and to plant a counterbalance of large rocks there. 'Tell them to stop' reads a plaintive note from the Moors and Christians press office.
